In 2020 EnviroCollective signed an agreement to become a local climate action hub under the mentorship of Climate Reality Canada
Founded and chaired by Nobel Laureate and former US Vice President Al Gore, The Climate Reality Project is dedicated to catalyzing a global solution to the climate crisis by making urgent action a necessity across every level of society. To tackle climate change, we focus on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as its main culprit, and on education and grassroots action as the solution.
The organization has branches in 10 countries, including Canada.
Climate Realitys approach is rooted in the empowerment of citizens: they are dedicated to equipping local hubs to be effective catalysts for change in their communities. How do they accomplish this? By training people of all walks of life to be strong communicators on climate science and solutions. Former US Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore regularly trains contingencies of citizens to join the Leadership Corps, a worldwide network of Climate Reality Leaders advancing solutions and raising awareness in their communities. They also develop tools and programs that are tailored to the Canadian context, in order to deepen citizens’ impact in their communities and to propel Canada towards carbon neutrality.
Climate Reality empowers people like our world depends on it, because it does.
Hub Agreement
In partnership with citizens, NGOs, businesses, and public officials, the Community Climate Hub (CCH) initiative equips local teams to engage their communities through public consultations, film screenings, eco-festivals, educational presentations, high- profile conferences, webinars, hack-a-thons, and competitions (i.e. architecture, entrepreneurship, urban planning). Hubs establish their own strategy, but align on the objective of advancing their municipalities towards carbon neutrality by mid- century by following the FCM’s Partners for Climate Protection milestone framework in a non-partisan manner:
Non-Partisanship Confirmation
All members understand that their actions related to the Hub must be non-partisan in nature. A partisan political activity is any activity that provides direct or indirect support or opposition to any political party or candidate at any time, whether during an election period or not, or to a candidate for public office.
It is important for your efforts to highlight climate challenges and solutions, and provide clear public support to implement those solutions. Shaming governments for inaction is not a campaign objective, and the focus should be on sharing best practices across Hubs and helping each other improve.
