Fridays for Future Youth Empowerment Fund

ECN is pleased to launch the Fridays for Future Youth Empowerment Fund, providing annual micro-grants for educators to support student-driven environmental projects and events.

This fund is all about equipping young changemakers with the resources they need to take bold climate action. Regina educators can access micro-grants to support student-led initiatives that spark environmental awareness, drive innovation, and promote advocacy. By fueling these ambitious projects, we’re empowering youth to lead the way toward a more sustainable future.

History: In August 2018 when Greta Thunberg, a 15-year-old Swedish student, started a solo protest outside the Swedish Parliament. Holding a sign that read “Skolstrejk för klimatet” (“School strike for climate”), she demanded stronger action against climate change. Her initiative quickly gained international attention and inspired students worldwide to join her cause.

The movement’s first major global strike occurred on March 15, 2019, with over 1.4 million participants across 125 countries. Subsequent strikes, including the Global Week for Future in September 2019, saw millions more joining in protests to demand urgent climate action.

Fridays for Future is youth-led and emphasizes the importance of listening to scientists and adhering to the Paris Agreement to limit global warming. It has become one of the most significant collective actions for climate justice in recent history

Fridays for Future (FFF) is a global youth-led climate movement founded by Greta Thunberg in 2018, sparking worldwide climate strikes.

The fund originated from unused donations left by Fridays for Future Regina (FFFR), a youth-led climate justice movement that experienced a decline during the pandemic. EnviroCollective Network, acting as the fund manager, collaborated with FFFR’s founding members to repurpose these contributions into a sustainable resource aimed at supporting youth-led climate action projects and encouraging environmental advocacy.

Help create a lasting legacy for our youth by donating to the fund through the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation. Your contribution empowers student-led environmental initiatives!

With guidance from advisors, EnviroCollective Network established a legacy fund through the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation. The interest generated by this fund will provide micro-grants for educators to support student-led environmental projects and events. Endorsed by local school boards, this initiative emphasizes the importance of youth climate activism, fostering meaningful change through impactful, small-scale projects.
